HP LTO-4 1840 Drive Delivers Efficient Data Compression

Compression algorithms depend on redundancy. This redundancy is removed by the data encryption mechanism of HP LTO4 tape drive which efficiently scrambles the data. It is very essential that in tape based encryption the data should be compressed before the performing the data encryption. Otherwise the media cost may increase because the information will not be compressed and more tape will be required for each backup. This will result in longer tape length. HP has devised a solution to this problem which has been implemented in the 1840 LTO-4 tape drives. In HP LTO-4 tape drive, the hardware compression is implemented before the data encryption. This encryption technique used by HP 1840 tape drive increases the overall efficiency and ensures high level of data reliability.
